Climate Change
How is the Climate Changing?
The global average temperature has increased by 1-degree pre-industrial levels – 2010-2019 was the earth’s hottest decade. Scientists agree that this is driven by human interactions, mainly by the burning of oil, gas and coal.
This is changing how often different types of weather occur, which can mean changes in average temperature, rainfall and wind patterns. It is also changing in the severity, duration and occurrence of extreme weather events, such as floods, droughts, heatwaves and storms.
Climate change occurs at a global, regional, and local level.
TYPICAL CHANGES INCLUDES, BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO
- Global temperature rise
- Warming oceans
- Shrinking ice sheets
- Glacial retreat
- Decreased snow cover
- Sea level rise
- Declining Arctic sea ice
- Extreme weather events
- Ocean acidification
