NOGAT COAL

NO COAL IN PAPUA NEW GUINEA

The Australian listed company Mayur Resources plans to build a coal-fired power plant in the outskirts of Lae, PNG’s second-biggest city. The company would also like to start mining coal in the Gulf Province, which would supply coal to the power plant. If Mayur’s plan goes ahead, PNG would be the first Pacific Island Country to develop a coal industry.

Papua New Guinea (PNG) does not have any operational coal mines or coal-fired power stations – something the Australian company Mayur wants to change. If Mayur’s plan to mine coal and build coal-fired power plant(s) goes ahead, PNG would be the first Pacific Island Country to develop a coal industry.
